Iain Crawford was a controversial figure in Scottish Archaeology but his name will be forever associated with the Udal, North Uist. A team of specialists have been working on the smallest of his Udal sites and the book about the excavation and its results will be published early in 2018. Iain Crawford's achievements concerning the late Neolithic and Bronze Ages of this site, in the Western Isles, will be discussed.

Understanding Runrig in the Northern Highlands

The paper will consider evidence for the operation of the runrig system in the north and its place within the farming community. It will explore attitudes towards runrig by estate managers, the disappear-ance of runrig, and its relationship with settlement patterns.
